Inspiration From
Oprah Winfrey
Oprah as one of the most influential women in the world and a multi-billionaire, Oprah has definitely done well for herself. But with all the attention and money in her life, she still inspires us all to grow and to become our best selves. I love her ability to feel others' pain and help those people get through their troubling times.
"The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams."
Why Oprah
Oprah is a Positive Impact Maker, who inspires others through her experience and her being, who empowers and supports others through her giving, who passionately shares who she is and what she does with the world, and who believes in the power of authenticity of the human being and in the unity of the people for a greater good: “The goal of my shows, all of it, whatever ventures I might pursue, would be to make clear that what unites us is ultimately far more redeeming and compelling than anything that separates us.”
She interviewed my dad 2 different times on the (Oprah Winfrey Show) when he was the bodyguard for fugitive Warren Jeffs. I remember her being kind and understanding towards us and our beliefs. When our community was hated by so many she lifted us up and was amazingly kind towards us all. To this day she has inspired me to be kind to all and to work hard towards my dreams and goals in life. She also showed me that it doesn't matter how hard your childhood was you can still rise up and become successful and inspire others. Your childhood does not define you.
Growing Up
Winfrey was born into poverty in rural Mississippi to a single teenage mother and later raised in inner-city Milwaukee. The poor, urban lifestyle had its negative effect on Winfrey as a young teenager, and her problems were compounded by repeated sexual abuse, starting at age nine, by men that others in her family trusted. Her mother worked odd jobs and did not have much time for supervision.
She has stated that she was molested during her childhood and early teens and became pregnant at 14; her son was born prematurely and died in infancy.
At twelve years old she was sent to live with her father in Nashville, Tennessee. Feeling secure and happy for a brief period she began making speeches at social gatherings and churches, and one time earned five hundred dollars for a speech. She knew then that she wanted to be "paid to talk."
The Turning Point
Winfrey became an excellent student, participating as well in the drama club, debate club, and student council. In an Elks Club speaking contest, she won a full scholarship to Tennessee State University. The following year she was invited to a White House Conference on Youth. Winfrey was crowned Miss Fire Prevention by WVOL, a local Nashville radio station, and was hired by the station to read afternoon newscasts.
Oprah became Miss Black Nashville and Miss Tennessee during her freshman year at Tennessee State.
“Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment”Oprah Winfrey
You should always give it your best. If you do whatever you are doing with pure enthusiasm, you’ll be able to do that thing in the perfect way. Doing this will ensure that the things you wanted to get done will be done and you’ll have the time to do other things. You’ll be able to notice a lot of difference in your performance and mental health as you’ll be able to do all the things you want to do.
The Successes
With her success on the Oprah Winfrey Show, autobiographies, radio shows, and involvement in the weight loss industry, it’s hard to imagine that her life was anything but perfect.
Winfrey is the first African-American woman to own her own production company; a talented actress nominated for an Academy Award in her first movie; television’s highest-paid entertainer; producer and actress in her own television specials; and the successful host of a syndicated television talk show that reaches 15 million people a day.
Over the years Oprah has inspired us shared some of her amazing tips on how to become our best selves. The following three steps if taking seriously will change your outlook on life.
Step 1: Believe in the “why” behind whatever it is you do. You have to believe you’re doing something meaningful.
Step 2: Find your unique talents and invest your whole self “in service” of your goals. You shouldn’t feel like you could do your work mindlessly: You should be actively using your gifts.
Step 3: Prioritize self-care. If you put yourself last and burn out, you won’t have anything left for others, let alone the goals you’re striving to achieve.
Our life is what we make it. It doesn't matter where you come from or how poor you are if you believe in yourself and you are willing to work hard you are on the path to greatness.
