The Journey

"They say a person needs just three things to be truly happy in this world: Someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for." Tom Boddet

Growing Up

I grew up with a large family in a small town in Southern Utah. Growing up with 15 siblings is not easy especially when you are one of the middle children with 5 older brothers. It is very common in large families to have some children get more attention than others. At times I wondered if my parents knew I existed. We never went to school until I got enrolled in public school at age 11. Let me just say that going to the public was not easy. I was behind all the other kids in my class, academically and I was too shy to make friends the first 2 years of going to public school.

Once I got into junior high I started to play basketball with the other kids at lunch and after school. I started to feel like a different person I was brimming with happiness and pride. I never wanted this feeling of happiness to end. But as you know we are all human which means that we are going to have days in which we don’t feel confident. I felt like for the rest of my high school life I was on a roller coaster ride with my emotions and thoughts.

The Blessings

When I was going through some tough emotions my mom noticed and gave me a book called The Self Confidence Workbook: A Guide to Overcoming Self-Doubt and Improving Self-Esteem Ph.D. Barbara Markway (Author) Celia Ampel (Author). This book changed everything for me it changed how I looked at myself and how I projected myself to others. I was no longer afraid to say what I was feeling. I was stronger and more able to take back control of those things that were mine to control—my attitude and my actions! I learned that sometimes the struggles that we are going through are blessing in disguise they help us to grow and get new perspectives on life. That book changes my life forever it inspired me to be the best version of my self.

Helping

Once I started to make a change in my life my siblings start to notice the difference in me. And when they were struggling they came to me for advice on everyday challenges. Giving my siblings' advice got me to thinking that I could help others who are going through a tough time. Helping others is important we need to look out for each other and help whenever we get the opportunity.

Why Self Improvement

When life gets hard and we are stuck sometimes all we need is a motivational video, a good book, or maybe some advice from someone who has been in your shoes. I am writing this blog because I want to be that person that helps others when they are struggling and need help.
